Lycopene and Tomatoes, "Skinny Tomato" Weightloss and Disease Prevention

We use this technique ourselves and are REALLY excited about it. Please don’t let the fact that we sell this product diminish the importance of the information. We consider it somewhat of a breakthrough.

The subject of “Lycopene in Tomatoes” has been a hot topic in the research of food and phytonutrients. This cartenoid has been extensively studied for its superfood powers in the area of antioxidants and cancer preventing properties. The kind of food we eat affects our diet-induced thermogenesis or as it is sometimes called “Specific Dynamic Action” (SDA). This is the amount of calories your body burns when digesting, absorbing, and metabolizing a meal. Simply it means that it takes calories to burn and release the calories in food. A person’s SDA constitutes about 10% of the total calories burned.

The kind of food we eat will affect SDA. Proteins such as UltraWhey Pro™ and Meal in a Glass™ elicits the highest SDA, followed closely by carbohydrates. Fats are a problem for most people as fat creates a significantly smaller amount of SDA to be digested. This accounts for the fact that high-fat diets can be detrimental to losing weight.

The body does not use up many calories to digest and assimilate fats. When a person eats 100 calories worth of protein and carbohydrates, the body will use up approximately 25% of these calories just to digest the nutrients. However, when a person eats100 calories worth of fat, the body will only burn about 3% in the digestion process.

Food scientists have documented that the more frequently we eat, the more energy we will expend in digesting the food. This has resulted in nutritionists recommending that we eat usually four to six small meals per day. However, this advice comes with high warnings. This strategy will work only if the composition of the food is low in calories and in appropriate quantity. Skinny Tomato™ can be substituted for one or more of those small meals per day.

More than a dietary supplement, Skinny Tomato™ is a delicious, low calorie functional food designed to provide nutritional support as a meal replacement(50 calories) while you lose weight or to help maintain your healthy weight. Science tells us that starvation diets create a “yo-yo effect” of weight loss, followed by weight gain. The body interprets lack of food as a nutritional famine and responds by reducing its metabolic rate. Nutritious meals are the foundation of healthy natural weight loss. Just one serving of Skinny Tomato™ contains the equivalent of two organic tomatoes and a patented non-GMO natural bean extract (Phaseolus vulgaris) which may reduce the enzymatic digestion of dietary starches, one of the the leading causes of weight gain. Skinny Tomato™ A Natural Approach to Weight Loss and Weight Management by Dr. Larry J. Milam, HMD., ph.d.clinical nutrition Lycopene’s antioxidant function is tied to its ability to help protect cells and other structures in the body from oxygen damage (i.e. the protectionof DNA inside white blood cells). Although lycopene may play an important role in the health benefits in tomatoes, it is not the only nutritional superstar giving this food a red-hot reputation for health promotion. Recent research shows that the tomato’s protective effects against prostate cancer and cardiovascular disease are not simply due to the lycopene content, but result from the synergy of lycopene in preventing with other phytonutrients naturally present in whole tomatoes. Skinny Tomato™ contains the whole tomato.

A study published in the Journal of the Natural Cancer Institute found that whole tomato powder was significantly more effectively than lycopene alone in the onset of prostate cancer. Recent research is now demonstrating that lycopene may play only a minor role in tomatoes heart health benefits. Lycopene is a powerful inhibitor of lung, breast, and endometrial cancer.

–The compounds found in tomatoes; coumaric acid and chlorogenic acid, help block the effect of nitrosamines found in tobacco smoke and may help reduce lung cancer.

–Serum PSA, primary tumor volume, and secondary tumor incidence, and pain associated with prostate cancer metastasis decline in patients who received lycopene tomato extract. (Ansari: et al. 2003)

–Lycopene in the body is concentrated in the liver, prostate, adrenal glands and testes.

–Lycopene may help reduce the risk of cataracts and mental degeneration.

–Supplementation with tomato products containing Lycopene, has been shown to lower biomarkers of oxidative stress.

–Women with the highest levels of Lycopene in their blood have five times a lower risk of developing pre-cancerous signs of cervical cancer than women with lower Lycopene levels.

Amazing Health Benefits of De-Oiled Lecithin

By: Dr. Larry J. Milam, H.M.D.

Lecithin is the most bio-available source of choline, which has been proven to be an essential nutrient involved in human metabolism. Phosphatidylcholine is present at high concentrations in several vital organs – the brain, heart, liver, and kidneys. Research indicates that lecithin supplementation works in many ways to improve and preserve good health. Research on the Benefits of Lecithin include:

Lecithin Benefit # 1: Liver Fucntion. A significant amount of research suggests that lecithin is essential to normal liver function. It is believed to metabolize clogging fat (LDL and VLSL’s), and reduce the chance of liver degeneration. Studies also suggest that lecithin supplementation can effectively protect the liver from damage attributed to alcohol consumption.

Lecithin Benefit #2: Heart Health. Evidence that lecithin is a key component involved in the cardiac system has been reported. In the bloodstream, it has been shown to help prevent cholesterol and other fats from accumulating in the walls of arteries and to help dissolve deposits that may already be there. Lecithin is also believed to participate in the metabolism of homocysteine to further reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease.

Lecithin Benefit #3: Reproduction. The requirement for lecithin is especially high in women during pregnancy. Choline is transported across the placenta from the mother’s bloodstream to the fetus by a 1:14 ratio. Improving the quality of the egg, enhance fetal maturation, and assists mothers in the prevention of mastitis.

Lecithin Benefit #4: Child Development. For both the fetus and infant, choline has been shown to enhance brain and mental development. Mother’s milk has over 100 times the concentration of choline as is found in the maternal bloodstream. Infant formulas approved by the FDA in the US require at least 7 mg of choline per 100 kcal.

Lecithin Benefit #5: Memory Improvement. In the brain, Phosphatidylcholine is transformed into acetylcholine, a vital compound for the transmission of messages form one never to another. Scientific studies indicate that long term memory loss maybe minimized by long tern use of lecithin as a dietary supplement. Thought processing and muscle control are also reported benefits.

Lecithin Benefit #6: Physical Performance. Lecithin supplements prevent decline of choline levels in plasma during intense physical activity. It has been shown to improve performance over extended periods of time.

Lecithin Benefit #7: Vitamin A Absorption. Lecithin has been described as the body’s emulsifier. It is though to aid the absorption of vitamins A and D in the intestinal tract. It also influences that utilization of other fat-soluble nutrients such as vitamins E and K.

Pomegranate & Mangosteen... The atest buzz in health circles.

The value of antioxidants in reducing the risk of virtually every disease process - including aging - is picking up steam in health care circles worldwide.

Leading the way is extraordinary research on rich flavorful juices that have been revered as daily tonics in some of the world’s most ancient cultures.

Pomegranate is probably the most popular of these new exotic juices, popularity that is driven by its naturally high levels of ellagic acid, elagitannins, punicalagins, anthocyanins, polyphenols and phytoestrogens!

While all of these powerful antioxidants are linked to reducing the risk of cancer, ellagic acid is receiving the most attention for its ability in laboratory tests to restore runaway malignant cells to a normal life cycle.

Another popular fruit from Southeastern Asia is Mangosteen. The excitement of the scientific community has centered around its high concentration of a new class of powerful antioxidants known as xanthones that are proving to be powerful anti-inflammatory agents.

Together, these extraordinary, flavorful fruits provide a daily antioxidant cocktail that can be enjoyed by the entire family.

Calcium: Are You Deficient?

We often hear about the correlation between a calcium deficiency and “brittle bones,” known as osteoporosis, but few people are aware that a calcium deficiency can impact important metabolic functions.

Here are THREE important, but little-known ways that getting more calcium can improve your health:

Calcium helps maintain a healthy weight.

  • When you’re deficient in calcium, your body thinks you’re starving and enters emergency mode, releasing parathyroid hormone. This hormone stimulates your bones to release some calcium into your bloodstream. Your kidneys also deliver a dose of a hormone called calcitriol, a form of vitamin D, to increase your ability to absorb calcium.
  • While this restores the critical balance to your blood, parathyroid hormone and calcitriol also stimulate the production of fat and inhibit its breakdown. As a result, your body stores fat and holds on to it stubbornly, even if you’re on a low-calorie diet.
  • On the other hand, a high calcium intake suppresses these hormones so your body stores less fat and also breaks it down far more easily.

Calcium protects your heart.

  • If you’re low on calcium, you’re more likely to have high blood pressure. Again, your body releases the hormone calcitriol in response to a calcium shortage, and calcitriol acts on the smooth muscle walls of your arteries, constricting them and elevating your blood pressure.
  • In fact, your calcium intake may be almost as important to blood pressure as your sodium intake. An adequate supply of calcium helps muscles, including your heart muscle, do their work of contracting and relaxing.
  • Calcium also appears to help your nervous system regulate the level of pressure in your arteries.

Getting enough calcium can ease the symptoms of PMS.

The amount of calcium in a woman’s blood parallels the activity of the ovaries:

  • Blood calcium falls during the week prior to menstruation (when progesterone levels fall), often triggering nervous tension, irritability, and perhaps mental depression .
  • At the onset of menstruation, a further drop in calcium levels can trigger cramps of the muscular walls of the uterus .
  • This condition is especially severe during adolescence, when the demands of growth exaggerate the need for calcium.

Calcium absorption requires some important support

New Spirit’s Calcium Complex is an amazing combination of absorbable Hydroxyapatite calcium, plus the supportive nutrients to both insure absorption AND support a healthy bone matrix.
